Heiligenblut
We are delighted to introduce you to a new winery in our portfolio: the historic Weingut Heiligenblut. The brothers Martin and Christian Hanneman continue the family tradition in a very special place in Rheinhessen.
The Hanneman family has lived and worked at the Heiligenblut winery since 1924, now in its 4th generation. The label was newly released based on the winery's oldest known bottled wine label from 1842.
According to the legend, Christian monks were murdered by the Hun king Attila in the year 454 on the grounds of the winery - on the Heilger Blutberg. In memory of this, St Boniface had a chapel built and the first vines planted in 746 AD.
The Villa Heiligenblut was built in 1826 and is surrounded by their own ‘monopollage’ the Heiligen Blutberg. This covers almost 3 hectares and is characterised by melaphyr; a dark volcanic rock that characterises their wines.
Heiligenblut stands for sustainably produced, unmanipulated and vibrant wines. They see themselves as the link between low-intervention and tradition.
No filtration, indigenous yeast and pure taste. Certainly no ‘funky’ wines that can have a ragged edge. Very drinkable, low in alcohol and a delight to drink.
