Krack - Sekthaus in Deidesheim
Lasst die Korken knallen - Traditionelle Flaschengärung
A brand new family company based in Deidesheim! Christian Krack has only been making sparkling wines since 2015. And seriously impressive sparkling wine! As far as we are concerned, Krack is already (one of) the very best producers in Germany. We had had our eye on these bubbles for some time, but the Germans like it too, so the stock was too small for export. Until late February of this year (2023). During our tasting at friend Michael Andres - also in Deidesheim - we were pleasantly surprised with a visit from Christian. We were overawed by the elegance of his sparkling wines - and by the news that "something" is available for Holland.
"German Burgundersekt may still be a step behind Riesling on the international stage, but there’s little reason to doubt the prowess of the rising generation. While I still enjoy Champagne, both the region and the product, it is the bubbling excitement, and unbeatably attractive prices, of the German sekt scene that hold my undivided attention." - Christoph Raffelt in Trinkmagazine Jan. 23 - 2024.
Style and method
Krack works with organic grapes without being certificated. Sulfur addition is zero or very low and aging is in 500 liter barrels and the traditional "Stück" barrels of 1200 liters. The aging "sur lattes" is between two and three years (like most champagne). For us, the low dosage ensures that the wines show purity and have a fine character. In addition, the alcohol percentages are low and the wines have a certain naturalness that is sometimes reminded us of the best Belgian "sour beers.
