Ladies and gentlemen, we are very pleased to announce that Agustin Novoa – the genius of CK fame – is finally coming to Amsterdam this weekend. Argentinian by birth, he lived and worked in Mendoza, the United States, New Zealand and Northern Italy, his time in the latter spent specializing in cool climate winemaking, before landing in Germany. After a stint at Kloster Eberbach’s Domäne Assmanshausen in Rheingau, in 2018 he became the general manager and head winemaker at the 19th-century winery Carl Koch in the beautiful, picturesque town of Oppenheim, Rheinhessen.
Without much ado, he set the winery on a clear path of organic, low-intervention winemakingand added his own range of natural wines to their lineup of more classic styles. His Orange Gewürztraminer, Na.ck.isch Riesling and Divers Feldcuvée, made without any intervention or added sulphites at all, have been smash hits in the Netherlands since their first vintage. But don’t discount some of the winery’s older cellar gems, of which he has many and which we import with great pleasure – their 1994 Oppenheimer Kreuz Silvaner Beerenauslese, for example, has to be tasted to be believed.
So, we are happy that this Saturday, April 9th, Agustin will be present in the store all day (12:00-18:00) to give an overview tasting of his oeuvre. Of course, his full line-up of natural wines will be open for tasting (including his new pét-nat), but he’ll also bring along some rare, old beauties from the Carl Koch cellar – so you can get an idea of the evolution of this historic, yet experimental and exciting winery. It’s free of charge, like you’re used from us, and we’ll make sure there are bites to go along with the wines. See you folks on Saturday!
